Natalie Wexler, host of Season 1 of the Knowledge Matters Podcast – "Reading Comprehension Revisited" – is an education writer and the author of The Knowledge Gap: The Hidden Cause of America’s Broken Education System—And How to Fix It . She is also the co-author of The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking Through Writing in All Subjects and Grades, and a senior contributor to Forbes.com.  Natalie’s articles and essays on education and other topics have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, the MIT Technology Review, The American Scholar, and other publications.

David Liben (Season 2 Co-Host)

The Libens have taught, written, and collaborated for 38 years. Their work spans every grade and most school types, primarily in urban centers (mainly Harlem).

David and Meredith Liben have also worked in rural schools, community colleges, and teacher prep programs. They coordinated a project to provide educators with the best tools and information about text complexity and reading ranges defined by the Common Core State Standards during their first decade of widespread use.

In recent years, the Libens have supported teachers, students, and instructional material makers by sharing the practical implications of reading research. Their collaboration has resulted in two books: Know Better Do Better: Teaching the Foundations so Every Child Can Read and Know Better Do Better: Comprehension, Fueling the Reading Brain with Knowledge, Vocabulary and Rich Language.
